116 policemen lost jobs in dope test
Staff Correspondent: 16 members have lost their jobs since the introduction of dope tests to create a drug-free Bangladesh police. Constables are more identified as drug addicts.
It is known that in 2020, the dope test was introduced in DMP to make the police drug-free. A total of 126 people have been identified as drug addicts so far, 116 of them lost their jobs, one of the remaining 10 died, one has retired and the rest are under trial.
Of the 126 policemen identified, 98 are constables, one Police Inspector, 11 Sub Inspector, one Sergeant, seven Assistant Sub Inspector, and eight Nayeks.
According to DMP sources, from March 10, 2020, to July 27, 2022, 120 policemen were identified as drug addicts in dope tests. Later, from November 2022 to February 2023, only six policemen were identified as drug addicts.
DMP Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq said Bangladesh Police is the first to take measures for the dope tests. Dope tests were conducted on all suspected policemen. If they are caught in a dope test, strict measures including dismissal are being taken against them.
He said that the suspected policeman is still subjected to this dope test. The number of drug addicts in the police has decreased as many have lost their jobs. This dope test will continue.
