36 foreign funded power projects in progress
Staff Correspondent: State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid said that 36 projects are being implemented with foreign investment. About Tk 121,675 crore are being spent on the implementation of the projects.
The state minister said these things in response to a question by Awami League member Mohammad Habib Hasan during the question and answer session of the National Parliament on Thursday (October 26). Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the session.
According to the information of the state minister, ADB Tk 17,016.77 crore, World Bank Tk 9,367.44 crore, KFW Tk 2,567.42 crore, China Acme Bank Tk 20,042.84 crore, AFD Tk 1,002.42 crore, LoC-India Tk 15,543.15 crore, JICA Tk 48,439.73 crore, AIIB Tk 5,447.62 crore, Bank of China Tk 56.10 crore, HSBC Bank Tk 261 crore and SMBC Tk 1,422.34 crore has invested.
In response to a question of Kazim Uddin Ahmed, the state minister said that currently 55 percent of the electricity demand in the country is in the residential sector, 11 percent in the commercial sector and 27 percent in the industrial sector.
In response to Abdul Latif’s question, Nasrul Hamid said that at present there are 461-megawatt renewable energy-based power plants in the country. An average of 400 to 425 megawatts of electricity is being generated from these power plants during off-peak periods. Plans taken to increase the power generation capacity based on renewable energy in the future are: Currently, 15 power plants with a total capacity of 561 MW from renewable energy are under construction. Agreement signing is under process for the construction of 16 renewable energy-based power plants with a total capacity of 1,059 MW. Tenders are under process for the construction of 6 power plants with a total capacity of 228 MW. 22 power plants with a total capacity of 1800 MW are under construction plan.
In response to Anwar Hossain Khan’s question, the state minister for Energy said that a total of 6 gas coupes have been found in the country from 2019 to September 2023.
