Conspiracy against politics of Bhasani undermines independence
Staff Correspondent: A call was made on Thursday to highlight the politics of independence and sovereignty of Moulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani to the people.
Speakers at a discussion organized by the International Farakka Committee (IFC) at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity urged the people to resist attempts made to misinterpret the politics of Maulana Bhasani.
The meeting also expressed deep shock at the death of International Farakka Committee Founder Chairman Atiqur Rahman Salu and IFC Bangladesh Senior Vice President Dr SI Khan and prayed for their salvation. Atiqur Rahman Salu, who was undergoing treatment for cancer, died of pneumonia on December 5. Dr. S.I. Khan died of a stroke on November 23 after almost a year-long treatment.
The speakers said that recently a quarter has started propaganda against Moulana Bhasani saying that during the liberation war, he proposed the formation of India-Bangladesh confederation during his stay in the neighboring country. But despite active politics for 5 years after the war, neither Moulana Bhasani himself nor anyone else did say such a thing before his death.
The attempt to destroy the anti-expansionist and anti-hegemonic politics of Moulana Bhasani, the first proponent of Bangladesh’s independence, goes against the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh. Therefore, they expressed the opinion that this evil attempt should be prevented.
Professor Anisuzzaman Chowdhury of the University of West Sydney, Australia presented the keynote paper. Jatiya Party (Zafar) Chairman Mostafa Jamal Haider was present as the chief guest. IFC Coordinator Mostafa Kamal Majumder presided over the meeting.
Siraj Uddin Sathi, retired Joint Secretary to the government of Bangladesh and renowned writer, convener of Bhasani Anusari Parishad Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, Bangladesh, NAP Bhasani leader Quamrul Huda, Left political leader Dipa Datta, Samyabadi Dal leader Kazi Mostafa Kamal, among others, took part in the discussion.
