Submarine cables under sea damaged by Houthi attacks

International Desk : Yemen’s Houthi forces have carried out multiple attacks targeting undersea internet cables. It has greatly disrupted the communication between Asia and Europe. At least four submarine cables under the Red Sea have been damaged, the New York Post reported, citing Israeli media Globes. These have disrupted Djibouti’s communication with Saudi Arabia.
Iran-backed Houthis launched a missile attack on a British-owned cargo ship in the Gulf of Aden last week. Soon after, the Houthis were reported to be targeting the submarine cable. Yemen’s Saudi-backed government also informed the Houthis of such plans this month. In the context of the Israel-Hamas war, the Houthis began to frequently target Western ships sailing through the Red Sea.
In response, the United States and its allies have continued to carry out deadly attacks inside Yemen.
It is known that the cables damaged by Houthi attack are of AE-1, CCOM, EIG and TGN companies. It is said that the damage caused to these cables due to the attack is not too serious. EIG (European India Gateway) connects Europe to Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Djibouti, UAE and India.
