Staff Correspondent: Almost all ready-made garment (RMG) factories in Bangladesh have successfully paid salaries and Eid-ul-Adha bonuses to their workers, according to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
In a press statement released yesterday, the BGMEA announced that a total of 2,160 RMG factories are currently operational in the country, with 1,835 located in Dhaka and 325 in Chattogram. Of these, 2,155 factories have disbursed May salaries, and 2,156 have paid Eid-ul-Azha bonuses.
The statement noted that the few remaining factories are in the process of clearing payments by June 15.
Additionally, the Industrial Police reported this afternoon that almost 100% of all factories have paid salaries and Eid bonuses to their workers. However, the police did not specify the exact number of factories still pending payments.
The Industrial Police also mentioned that around 1,000 factories had yet to disburse salaries for March.
