Muslim Ummah must stand united against Israeli genocide in Palestine: PM Hasina

Staff Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday put emphasis on the unity of Muslim Ummah to stop the genocide in Palestine by the Israeli forces. “We (Muslim Ummah) have to be united to raise our voice against this genocide,” she said.


The prime minister said this while Egyptian Ambassador to Bangladesh Omar Mohie Eldin Ahmed Fahmy called on her at her office, PM’s Deputy Press Secretary KM Shakhawat Moon told reporters. Hasina said that whenever she went to any foreign country or any forum she talked about the issue and urged all to take effective steps for stopping genocide in Palestine.


“The money spent on the war and production of arms and ammunition could be used for the welfare of the mankind and it could bring much more benefit for the whole world,” she said. She mentioned that despite having huge potentials, the bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Egypt has not grown as expectated.


The total trade volume between Bangladesh and Egypt was USD 180.6 million (Export USD 30.1 million and Import USD 150.5 million) in 2022-23 fiscal. In this connection, she said that collaboration in the fields of agriculture, textile, pharmaceuticals, tourism and education can be beneficial for both countries.
The Egyptian envoy said that Muslim Ummah should be more united against the genocide in Palestine.


He highly appreciated the socioeconomic development of Bangladesh under the leadership of PM Hasina.
“A leader like you is needed not only in Bangladesh, but also in the whole world,” he said. He mentioned that the Grand Imam of Egypt, whose rank is equivalent to the status of prime minister according to the constitution of Egypt, is eager to visit Bangladesh.


In reply PM Hasina said that Bangladesh is waiting to welcome him. The Egyptian ambassador also expressed his country’s interest in increasing trade and business between the two countries. He mentioned that the friendly relationship of Bangladesh with all other countries is also commendable.


He also recalled the friendship between the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the former Egyptian president Anwar Sadat. Ambassador-at-Large Mohammad Ziauddin and PM’s Principal Secretary Md Tofazzel Hossain Miah, were present during at the meeting.
