Violence erupts at Dhaka University as quota protesters clash with police, refuse admin orders

Staff Correspondent: Quota protesters, who took over Dhaka University halls, performed a ‘Gayebana Janaza’ at around 4:10 pm today for those who died in yesterday’s clashes.

After that they marched towards TSC premises and broke two police barricades.
When the students reached near the Arts Faculty gate, police started throwing sound grenades and firing tear gas shells. A chase and counter-chase is still going on.

Students of all 18 halls of Dhaka University removed BCL leaders and announced the halls “free from any party affiliated student politics” around 1 pm today.

Following the tense situation, the university administration issued a notification asking students to leave the halls by this evening.

But the students decided to stay at halls boycotting the administration’s decision. Moreover, the students issued a notification asking the university teachers, workers and officers to leave campus.
