BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is free

Mahfuja Mukul: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has been released by executive order. This information was informed in a press release of Bangabhaban yesterday.
It is said in the press release, the President Sahabuddinhas been released Khaleda Zia in view of the decision of the meeting of three army chiefs, leaders of various political parties, representatives of civil society and leaders of anti-discrimination student movement. Apart from this, it is mentioned in the press release that from July 1 to August 5, the anti-discrimination movement and the release of those detained in various cases have started. It is also said that many have already been released.
Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister Monday and left the country for India in the face of student movement. Then the process of forming an interim government to run the country began. In this regard yesterday afternoon, the President held a meeting with the leaders of various political parties and representatives of the civil society in the presence of the heads of the three forces at Bangabhaban. It was decided in this meeting that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will be released immediately. Apart from this, the meeting also decided to release all the prisoners detained in the anti-discrimination student movement and recently in various cases.
Khaleda Zia was jailed in two corruption cases. He was imprisoned for more than two years. On March 25, 2020, the government suspended his sentence and granted conditional release in an executive order. After that, the government extended the period of his release by suspending his sentence in view of his appeals for six months.
