BGB foils BSF’s attempt to erect barbed wire fence along Lalmonirhat border

Staff Correspondent: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members have stopped an attempt of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) members to construct a barbed wire fence along the border in Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat.

According to BGB members and local residents, on Wednesday afternoon, some BSF members started constructing a barbed wire fence along the zero line of sub-pillars 23 to 28 of the main pillar (DAMP) number 8 a the Haripara border in Dahagram Union.

Members of the BSF from the Bhim Camp of the 6 Raninagar Battalion in Cooch Bihar, India, brought a large amount of barbed wire and construction materials on the site.

When locals and the BGB members noticed it along the zero line, they protested, leading the BSF to halt the work.

Jahurul Haque, a resident of Haripara village in Dahagram Union, said on Wednesday afternoon, Indian workers suddenly started placing iron pillars in the paddy fields along the border in the presence of the BSF troops.

“At that time, the locals began protesting. Upon receiving the news, BGB arrived at the scene and obstructed the work, leading the BSF to stop,” he said.

Lieutenant Colonel Selim Al Din, commander of the Rangpur 51 Battalion, said, “We strongly protested and obstructed the work. In the evening, a flag meeting was held between the battalions of both countries near the incident site. For now, the fence construction work is halted.”
