Extremely tragic
Situation of Covid is not controlled
Staff Correspondent: The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) yesterday said if the Covid-19 situation is not controlled within the next seven days, the situation will be extremely tragic.
Professor Dr. Md. Robed Amin, a spokesman of the DGHS, expressed his fear in a virtual bulletin on the COVID situation yesterday.
He said the Variant of Concern of coronavirus that causes death is not only affecting the elders but also the youths. As we have seen in different parts of the division, COVID has spread to all the districts and the infection is on the rise.
“The number of deaths is also increasing,” said Dr. Md. Robed Amin. “In the last 24 hours – 70 people died in Dhaka division, 20 in Chattogram, 13 in Rajshahi and 51 in Khulna. The detection rate is 49.87 percent in Dhaka, 18.29 percent in Chattogram and 11.04 percent in Khulna. Patient pressure is increasing in Dhaka, Chattogram and Khulna. If it continues like this, it will not take much time to detect 15,000 cases in a day.”
Dr. Robed Amin added that the rate of infection was much higher across the country last month. 1,12,718 have been infected in June. “We saw about one lakh patients become infected in the first 10 days of July.”
If this number is increasing in such a way, then the number of ICU beds will be decreasing, the DGHS spokesman said.
People are going out “without” urgent need, Dr. Robed Amin further said, predicting “If we can’t control COVID within the next week, the situation will be extremely tragic”.
