Students on streets with ‘red card’
Demand for safe roads
Staff Correspondent: Students have taken to the streets again yesterday with red cards, demanding safe roads and against mismanagement and corruption in the streets.
Around 20-30 students of Khilgaon Model College are protesting with red cards at the Hatirjheel police station area in Rampura Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
Although the traffic movement was not completely stopped, it was being disrupted on one side of Pragati Sarani.
It was seen on the spot that the protesting students are chanting slogans in support of their demands.
Earlier, students took to the streets in Rampura on Friday for 11-points demand at Hatirjheel corner near Rampura Bridge. Later the police came and removed them from the road.
Students from Khilgaon Model High School, Khilgaon Model University College and various schools and colleges in the vicinity in uniform took part in the protest. They chanted slogans demanding 11 points. Later, the rally announced a red card against road corruption.
A student named Mainuddin was killed when an Anabil Paribahan bus hit him in the Rampura area in the capital at night on November 29 (Monday). Agitated people blocked the road and torched eight buses including the bus that hit Mainuddin. Four more buses were vandalized at that time.
The locals lynched the bus driver Sohail and handed him over to the police. RAB also arrested the helper of the deadly bus on Tuesday morning. The students became vocal in the movement from that morning.
