Govt wants to modernize prison as correctional places: Tipu
Rangpur Correspondent: Commerce Minister and heroic freedom fighter Tipu Munshi has said the government has taken various multidimensional initiatives to modernize prisons as not only jails but also correctional places.
“The prisons were established a long ago and those need to be modernized through infrastructural developments,” Tipu said this while talking to journalists after visiting Rangpur Central Jail in the metropolis yesterday. Responding to a question from reporters at the time, the commerce minister said initiatives are underway to keep the prices of essential products normal in the market centering the upcoming holy month of Ramadan. “The quantity of product sales at fair prices in the open market will be increased alongside doubling the volume of product sales of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) during the Ramadan,” he said.
“Besides, market monitoring is being intensified to keep the prices of daily essential commodities within the purchasing capacity of common people,” he said.
Responding to another question, Tipu Munshi further said the government has adopted a mega plan centering the river Teesta.
The government has planned to implement a mega project worth Tk 8,500 crore.
If the project is implemented, there will be substantial development across the Teesta riverbank and Rangpur division as a whole.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very sincere in the development of the northern region. We are working under her guidance towards the directions,” he added.
