BD up 7 notches on happiness index
Staff Correspondent: Moving up seven notches on the Happiness Index, Bangladesh was ranked 101st among 149 countries of the world this year. The country ranked the 101st happiest last year and 107th in 2020.
According to World Happiness Report 2022 published on Friday, Finland was the happiest country for the fifth straight time, while Afghanistan came out at the bottom of the annual list.
Denmark and Iceland were ranked second and third while Switzerland and Netherlands came in fourth and fifth positions respectively. The other countries in the top ten are – Luxembourg, Sweden, Norway, Israel and New Zealand, respectively.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s neighbour countries – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal placed 136th, 121st, 127th, 126th, and 84th respectively.
The US was placed 16th while the UK and Canada were in 15th and 17th positions respectively.
The annual list was prepared from data compiled by the Gallup World Poll. The report ranks countries on six key variables that support well-being, including income, freedom, trust, healthy life expectancy, social support, and generosity.
