Largest shelter project in Kasba

All facilities under one umbrella

Brahmanbaria Correspondent: Over 400 red-green houses are being constructed on 12.35 acres of land in Mankashair area of Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria. About 300 workers are working together in this project. Each house is built on two kathas of land. In addition to houses, there are schools, mosques, playgrounds, ponds, temples, markets and cemeteries. Everything that is needed for social benefits is kept here. So, all the benefits will match in one place.
This is the largest shelter project in the country, where the construction cost of each house is Tk 259,500.
Located on the Comilla-Sylhet highway, the country’s largest shelter project cost Tk 10.37 crore. The project will be completed by next July and the landless will be relocated. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the project by virtually joining.
According to district and upazila administration sources, construction of 400 houses is being carried out in Mankashair mouza of Kharera union of Kasba upazila under one of the largest shelter projects in the country. Work on the project is in full swing on 12.35 acres of khas land along the Comilla-Sylhet highway. About 80 percent of the project work has already been completed.
Each family will get two decimal of land and a semi-finished house. There is a veranda, two bedrooms, a kitchen and a toilet. There is a tube well for every 10 households as well as electricity. As it is next to the highway, more than one road of the project is also being constructed.
It has been learned that apart from houses, ponds will be constructed in 5,984 sq ft area, temples in 3,000 sq ft areas, playgrounds in 6,475 sq ft areas, mosques in 3,045 sq ft areas and schools in 3,494 sq ft areas. Out of 400 houses, 50 houses will be painted red and 350 houses will be painted green. There is also a system of afforestation including construction of roads and canals.
Meanwhile, Tofazzal Hossain Mia, Senior Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office, visited the site on April 9. He told reporters at the time that the Prime Minister had instructed that those staying in the shelter would be given training by various government departments. Besides, government loan facility will also be arranged for them.
He also expressed satisfaction over the quality of work, saying that as it is a big project in the country, regular monitoring will be done to maintain its quality.
The Secretary was accompanied by Director General (Administration) Ahsan Kibria, Asrayan-2 Project Director (Joint Secretary) Abu Saleh Mohammad Ferdous Khan, Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Ashraf Uddin and Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner Md. Shahgir Alam.
