Spices get costlier

Industry Desk: Prices of most spices used in meat recipes soared ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, putting more pressure on the wallets of the consumers.
Prices went up by 2 to 7 percent on average in a month as Eid approaches, according to Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) data.
Price of cooking oil has increased in the country due to a supply crunch amid an export ban on palm oil by Indonesia. Abul Hashem, general secretary of Bangladesh Edible oil Wholesalers Association at Moulvibazar said that supply of edible oil from mills has declined drastically in the last few days.
Price of loose soybean oil has increased by 9.27 percent in a week from and was selling at Tk 170-172 per liter, according to TCB data.
Price of five-litter soybean oil has increased by 0.67 percent and was selling at Tk 750-760 per bottle.
Price of loose palm oil has increased by 10.80 percent in a week and was selling at Tk 156-162 per litre and super palm oil price has soared by 9.15 percent in a week to Tk 160-162 per liter.
The price of cardamom has increased to Tk 2, 000- 3,200 per kg from Tk1, 900 per kg in a month.
Cardamom price started to increase last month and has reached an all-time high, said Masud Alam, the owner of a grocery store at Kawran Bazar.
Coriander, another vital spice for meat recipes, saw a moderate price hike by 7.41 percent in a month to Tk 120-170 per kg as of Wednesday.
Price of clove has increased by 2.22 percent in a month to Tk1, 100-1,200 per kg on the day, according to TCB data.
Local garlic price has increased by 20 percent in a month to Tk 50-70 per kg.

Imported dry chili price increased by 1.56 percent to Tk 300-350 per kg.

Cumin price increased to Tk400-450 per kg from Tk 380-450 a week earlier. Local onion price increased by 18.18 percent in a week and was selling at Tk 30-35 per kg.

Imported onion price increased by 27.27 percent in a week to Tk 30-40 per kg.
