BD wants Rohingyas’ safe and dignified repatriation: HM

Staff Correspondent: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that Bangladesh has become a victim because of the Rohingyas. Day by day these displaced citizens are becoming a burden on us. Bangladesh wants their speedy, safe and dignified repatriation to Myanmar.
He said these while speaking as the chief guest at the National Consultative Meeting on Prevention of Human Trafficking organized jointly by Bangladesh United Nations Migration Network and the Ministry of Home Affairs at Hotel Intercontinental in the capital yesterday.
The Home Minister said the government follows a zero-tolerance policy on heinous crimes like human trafficking. The government has formulated laws and policies to prevent this crime. ‘Anti Human Trafficking’ Action Plan has been taken up.
Mentioning that Bangladesh is at the second position in the human trafficking index of the United States, he said that this is a reflection of Bangladesh’s position against human trafficking. The government takes the issue of human trafficking very seriously.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Senior Secretary of Public Security Department Md Aktar Hossain, Secretary of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Ministry Ahmed Munirus Salehin, Ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh Nathalie Chord, British High Commissioner Robert Chatterson Dickson, Acting Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy Scott Brandon, Acting Charge of the Affairs of the European Union Delegation Jeremy Aparitso, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Jean Lewis, International Organization for Migration IOM- Its Chief of Mission Abdus Sattar Izayev and others were present.
