Who will be next IGP?

Staff Correspondent: Inspector General of Bangladesh Police (IGP) Dr. Benazir Ahmed’s term of service ends on September 30. Who is coming to the new leadership of the police force of more than two and a half million members? Or will the tenure of the current IGP be extended?
Several officials are being heard as the next police chief. However, some officials say that the current IGP. Benazir Ahmed can get contractual appointment in this post for one more year.

Sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Police Headquarters said that many officers interested in the post of 31st Police Chief have already started contacting.
According to police headquarters sources, Hasan Mahmud Khandkar was the IGP for the maximum period of four years in the history of Bangladesh Police. He was in charge of IGP from August 31, 2010 to December 31, 2014.

Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun
The name of RAB Director General Additional IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun is coming forward as the 31st IGP of Bangladesh Police. This officer of the eighth BCS batch is scheduled to retire on January 11. But the government can appoint him as IGP if it wants. He has a reputation with the force and the government as an honest police officer.
He has been awarded the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) and the President Police Medal (PPM) in recognition of his outstanding contribution and exceptional service to the Bangladesh Police. Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun was promoted to grade-1 on October 18 last year.
Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun was born on January 12, 1964 in Srihail village of Shalla upazila of Sunamganj in a noble Muslim family. He holds a BA (Honours) in Sociology from Chittagong University.
Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun held important responsibilities like DIG (Operations), DIG (Administration), Range DIG, Mymensingh and Dhaka Range as Additional DIG in Dhaka Range and DIG. He was then promoted to Additional IGP (HRM). Before joining RAB as Director General, he served successfully as CID chief.
Kamrul Ahsan
Additional IGP Md. Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), a specialized branch of the police established to combat militancy and terrorism, is in discussion as IPG. Kamrul Ahsan. He was born in 1966 in Imampur village of Matlab North Upazila of Chandpur. Graduated from Mymensingh Agricultural University and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from South East University.
Joined BCS (Police) Cadre in 1991. After basic and practical training, he was posted as Assistant Superintendent of Police of Khagrachari district. After that he served as Hathajari circle ASP, ASP DSB of Chittagong district, ADC of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Additional SP of Feni district.
Besides, he served as Superintendent of Police of Shariatpur, Chittagong and Jessore districts, Additional DIG (Establishment) and Additional DIG (Training) of Police Headquarters and DIG of Railway Range. Internationally renowned police officer. Kamrul Ahsan served as a ‘Police Advisor’to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Sierra Leone and Sudan.
He earned the honor of serving as the contingent commander of the Sudan Mission. Besides, he received the ‘United Nations Peacekeeping Medal’in recognition of his exemplary service in the missions.
SM Ruhul Amin
Additional IGP (Logistics and Asset Acquisition) SM Ruhul Amin, a 12th BCS batch officer, is in discussion as the next IPG. He was born in a noble Muslim family in Gopalganj Sadar Police Station.
He obtained a master’s degree with honors from the Department of International Relations of Dhaka University.
SM Ruhul Amin served as Deputy Commissioner of Police of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), Superintendent of Police of Sylhet District, Special Superintendent of Police of CID in Dhaka, Additional DIG of Chittagong Range and DIG of Railway Police. He joined the Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP) as Commissioner and ushered in a new horizon of police service in Barisal.
This police officer has worked for Bangladesh in various countries of the world including Ivory Coast and South Sudan in the United Nations peacekeeping mission.
Mallik Fakhrul Islam
Highway Police (Additional IGP) chief Mallik Fakhrul Islam is in discussion as IPG. He was born on January 15, 1969 in a noble Muslim family of Bagerhat district. On January 20, 1991, Mallik Fakhrul Islam joined the Bangladesh Police as the 12th BCS officer.
After being promoted to the post of Superintendent of Police in 2003, he served as Superintendent of Police of Bhola, Kishoreganj, Sylhet, Feni and DC in Dhaka Metropolitan Police. Apart from this, he gained fame in the UN peacekeeping mission as a commander. After that, he was promoted to the post of Additional DIG and served in RAB in 2012. Later he was promoted as DIG in 2014 and worked in Railway Police, Highway Police, City SB and Tourist Police.
