BD women make history winning maiden SAFF title
Sports Desk: Bangladesh clinched the first-ever SAFF Women’s Championship title beating Nepal by 3-1 goal in the final at Dasarath Rangasala in Kathmandu.
Shamsunnahar Jr gave Bangladesh a 14th-minute lead with a superb flick on a cross from Monika Chakma, four minutes after coming off the bench to replace injured Sirat Jahan Swapna.
Nepal stepped up the prior after conceding the lead and almost equalized, but the woodwork denied the hosts in front of a capacity crowd at Nepal’s national stadium. As the hosts looked to assert their domination, Bangladesh doubled the lead in the 42nd minute thanks to Krishna’s brilliant smashing home
with a left-footed shot from inside the box following a through-pass from skipper Sabina Khatun.
Nepal started playing aggressively from the beginning of the second half. On the other hand, Bangladesh was busy defending. Finally, Nepal reduced the goal difference by 2-1 thanks to Anta Basnet.
Bangladesh later netted another goal in the second half to confirm victory. After conceding the goal, the girls in reed-green made a counter-attack and got the third goal in the 77th minute. Golam Rabbani Chotan’s disciples left the field with 3-1 triumph.
