5.7 m vehicles crossed Padma bridge
Abu Sayeed, Munshiganj: A total of 56 lakh 75 thousand 205 vehicles crossed the Padma Bridge in the first year from the day after its inauguration. About Tk 800 crore have been collected as toll from the vehicles.
The amount of toll collected for Tk 798 crore 23 lakh 96 thousand 650 during this time. Additional Director of Padma Bridge Site Office Amirul Haider Chowdhury informed this statistic to Daily Industry.
However, as Bangladesh Army and SSF pay the total toll for their vehicle crossings together every month, their tolls will be available at the end of this month. According to the related sources, the amount of toll in the first year will increase a little more.
According to the data analysis of the bridge department, an average of more than 15,000 vehicles have crossed every day. Daily average of more than Tk 2.10 crore toll was collected. After the bridge was opened for motorcycle traffic on April 20, the number of vehicles has increased. Additional toll is charged. Meanwhile, the Padma Bridge was not closed for traffic even for a moment after the inauguration. Through this bridge, the people of 21 districts of the southwestern part of the country are running towards their destination at a constant speed. Passengers, drivers and related people of this road are excited to be able to travel through the bridge of dreams. They thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for changing the scenario of suffering and creating a journey of relief.
Some passengers said that this one-year anniversary is memorable for the passengers on this route. Because just a year ago, crores of people were freed from suffering on this road. A new revolution took place in the road communication system of the country. Common people can now reach the destination at the same speed day or night. All this is possible because of the six-kilometer-long dream Padma bridge.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the two-storied Padma Bridge built at a cost of Tk 30,193 crores on June 25 last year. On this day, the Prime Minister himself climbed the Padma bridge for the first time by tolling at the Mawa end. The bridge was opened for traffic from the next morning.
