Banana cultivation gains popularity in Panchagarh
Panchagarh Correspondent: Banana cultivation is gaining popularity in the district as its cultivation is more lucrative and less expensive.
Banana is cultivated especially on abandoned and high land here while many farmers cultivated it commercially.
Farmers have already started harvesting banana this year as the delicious fruit is plucked within 10 to 11 months after planting.
Farmer Jahiruddin of Nagorpara village in Debiganj upazila said, “I planted 400 banana trees on one bigha of land by spending Taka 30,000. But I got Tk 1 lakh by selling banana.”
Traders come here from different parts of the country and buy banana everyday and send it to Dhaka and others districts by trucks.
DAE office sources said about 3200 hectares of land have been brought under banana cultivation in all five upazilas of the district this year.
Deputy Director of DAE Md. Mizanur Rahman told that Panchagarh land is best for banana cultivation.
