Bandarban DC Yasmin handed over ‘Kalabati’ saree made from banana tree to PM yesterday
Muhammad Ali, Bandarban: Kalavati sarees and handicrafts made from banana fiber were handed over to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday.
The Prime Minister’s Press Wing said in a press release that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received kalabati sarees and handicrafts made from banana fiber at the Cabinet Room of the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday afternoon.
Dynamic Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban Yasmin Parveen Tibriji handed over three sarees made of banana fiber and two jewelery boxes to the Prime Minister.
For the first time in the history of the country, weaver Radhavati Devi of Moulvibazar prepared this Manipuri design saree from the fiber of the banana tree. Anjali Devi and Dutta Singh made 3 sarees gifted to the Prime Minister.
Apart from this, a model of a special Machang house for residential shelters in hilly areas, district brand calendar and brand book were also presented to the Prime Minister by the Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban. At that time, Bir Bahadur Ushaising MP, Honorable Minister of Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, the shaper of modern Bandarban, was also present at the Kalabati saree handing over ceremony.
