Bangladesh sees record 201 Covid deaths in 24hrs
Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh reported single day highest 201 coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the deaths toll to 15,593.
“The tally of infections has surged to 9,77,568 as 11,162 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours, which is the highest daily cases,” Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said yesterday in its routine daily statement.
Among the dead in the last 24 hours, 98 were male and 65 were female. Khulna division recorded the highest 66 deaths in the past 24 hours while 58 died in Dhaka division, 21 in Chattogram division and 18 in Rajshahi division.
DGHS said 31.32 percent of the 35,639 samples collected in 24 hours were tested positive while the infection rate was only 2.30 percent just on February 8 this year as, during the late winter season, the rate started decreasing sharply.
The recovery count rose to 8,50,502 after another 5,987 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the same time.
The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 87.39 percent recovered, while 1.59 percent died.
Earlier, 164 virus deaths, the highest single day spike and 9,964 fresh cases were reported on Monday (July 5). On the other hand, 163 Covid-19 deaths and 11,525 cases were reported on Tuesday.
