BSSA Congratulates Dr. Yunus-Led Interim Government

Staff Correspondent: The Bangladesh Secretariat Service Association (BSSA) held its inaugural meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat, chaired by its convener Abdul Khalek. The session was co-led by Senior Assistant Secretaries Md. Nazmul Haque and Nazrul Islam.

Speakers at the meeting, including Md. Shahidullah, Sushil Kumar Pal, Md. Abdul Mannan, Sheikh Hemayet Hossain, and Assistant Secretaries Selina Sultana, Sultan Ahmed, Zaheda Khatun, Rafiqul Islam, Kamal Hossain, and Md. Farooq Kabir, expressed their congratulations to the newly established interim government led by Dr. Yunus. They acknowledged the sacrifices made for the right to speak but noted that the underlying issues of discrimination for which those sacrifices were made persist.

The speakers prayed for the souls of those who lost their lives in the fight against discrimination and expressed hope that their peace would be secured through the establishment of a developed and equitable Bangladesh. They stressed the need for the interim government to address longstanding issues of discrimination and ensure good governance.

The BSSA called for the fulfillment of their demands by next Sunday, warning that failure to do so would lead to the announcement of a new program to address these concerns. There has been frustration among non-cadre officers over the lack of implementation of administrative demands, including promotions. The association highlighted ongoing disparities and urged collective action until these issues are resolved.

Key demands outlined include:
Assistant Secretaries who have been deprived of promotion should be granted 5 years of service as Senior Assistant Secretary, and promotions should be provided from Assistant Secretary to Senior Assistant Secretary as per the Bangladesh Secretariat recruitment rules (2014).
The provision for 100% promotion to the post of Deputy Secretary upon completion of 8 years of service should be reinstated, along with the reinstatement of promotions to the post of Joint Secretary.
The meeting concluded with congratulations extended to the newly formed convening committee. With no further discussions, the president thanked all attendees and formally ended the session.
