Chilli farmers happy over bumper yield, fair price in Panchagarh
Panchagarh Correspondent: The farmers of the district are happy over bumper chilli yield and fair price of their produce this year.
Now, green chilli is being sold at Tk 900 to 1000 per mound in the local markets. A farmer can produce at least 25-30 maund chilli from one bigha of land.
Traders from different parts of the country come there to buy chilli and supply to different places including Dhaka.
Farmers have started harvesting green chilli from the first week of May and it will continue till July.
Mobarok Ali, a farmer of Debiganj upazila of the district said he cultivated chilli on seven bigha of land and earned Tk 2 lakh by selling chilli. Mobarok hoped that he would earn more Tk 3 lakh during the season.
A total of 1200 hectares of land have been brought under green chilli cultivation this year, the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) of Panchagarh sources said.
Mizanur Rahman, deputy director of DAE Panchagarh, said chilli cultivation is gaining popularity among the farmers in the district and the department has provided all necessary support to the chilli growers.
