Covid deaths surpass 17,000 in country

Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh reported another 210 coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the deaths toll from the pandemic to 17,052. Earlier, the highest number of single day deaths 230 was recorded on Friday (July 9).
“The tally of infections has surged to 10,59,538 as 12,383 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours,” Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said today in its routine daily statement.
DGHS said 29.14 percent of the 42,490 samples collected in 24 hours were tested positive while the infection rate was only 2.30 percent just on February 8 this year as, during the late winter season, the rate started decreasing sharply.
