Govt’s steps not enough to tackle challenges: CPD
Industry Desk: The measures taken by the government to overcome economic challenges are not adequate, the Center for Policy Dialogue said yesterday.
CPD Executive Director Dr Fahmida Khatun said this at a press conference titled ‘Recent Economic Challenge: How Risky?’ organized by the local think-tank at Dhanmondi in the capital of Dhaka.
She said the government should pay more attention to institutional reformation, revenue collection, and default loans to tackle economic challenges.
Mentioning the current crisis as medium-term, she said, “If this continues, the country will go towards a long-term crisis.”
According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), there may be an economic crisis in 2023 as well, and there the situation in Sri Lanka has been mentioned as worse, Dr Fahmida said.
Though the position of Bangladesh is somewhat better, it needs to be cautious, and have to take long-term steps, she added.
