New govt will be trusted by people

Says Dr. Yunus

Staff Correspondent: Criticizing the existing government system, Nobel laureate economist Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus said, ‘There is a thing called government. But the people have no trust. He also assured that the new government will be trusted by the people.
He said these things while talking to reporters after returning home from Paris on Thursday (August 8) afternoon. The flight carrying Dr. Yunus landed at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
He exchanged greetings with army chief Waqar-uz-Zaman, chiefs of three forces, senior government officials, representatives of protesting students and representatives of civil society at the airport. After resting for a while, the Nobel laureate briefed the media.
In the briefing, Dr. Yunus said, ‘People think that the government is an instrument of repression. Hurting where opportunities arise… at all levels. (People) are a thing of fear, deal with him; This is the (current) government. It can’t actually be the government.’
Highlighting his idea of government, he said, ‘People’s chests will swell after seeing the government. Who will help me, protect me, my government will stand for me; The government has never stood up for them (the people).’
Regarding the new government, he said, ‘The new government will protect the people, it will be the confidant of the people. No one will force him (the people) to say that it is good… it is not. He will believe himself, when he sees the government people, he will say that – my people. Someone to protect me. That trust should be brought back to people’s minds. Then people will also join in it. People hold back now, wondering what they are getting us into. May we all move forward together.’
Referring to the whole of Bangladesh as a family, he said, ‘We want this family to continue together. I want to remove whatever ambivalence there is between us. I want to bring those who have gone astray; So that we can work together.
After the fall of the Awami League government, highlighted the violence in different parts of the country Dr. Yunus said, “On the way, I heard that there is a disturbance of law and order here. People are attacking people, burning houses, destroying property, attacking offices and courts, attacking minorities, attacking Hindus-Buddhists-Christians-Ahmadiyas; They are part of the conspiracy. These are not our issues. Our job is to protect them, protect everyone. Every man is our brother, to protect them, to bring back an order.’
Mentioning that chaos and violence are the great enemies of progress, he said, ‘The journey we have started is the enemy of the journey. In order to stop this enemy, they should be explained and listened to or handed over to law enforcement agencies; They have to understand. Beating… it’s not right. It is not right to take law and order into your own hands. Our law and order forces should also be such that even if we leave them in their hands, we can be sure that there will be one of them. Not that I handed it to them, they are worth two rupees
