Staff Correspondent: Education Minister Dipu Moni has denied allegations about her relatives’ involvement in the corruption surrounding the land acquisition process for the proposed Chandpur science and technology university.
“No land that belongs to me or my family was among the areas acquired for the university,” said the minister in reaction to the allegations yesterday.
“We did own some land there before, but it has been sold long ago, ‘’ she added.
“The allegations are false, fabricated and ill-motivated, ‘’ claimed the minister while demanding investigation into the matter.
Chandpur land price soars unusually centring university
A group of influential people bought nearly 62.5 acres of land chosen for the university at an inflated price which is 20 times more than the actual price of the land.
There are allegations that influential people, reportedly close to Education Minister Dipu Moni and her close relatives, are involved with the reported graft.
They were allegedly set to extract about Tk 359 crore more from the government than needed to acquire the land.
