Ousted PM’s Adviser Salman, ex-minister Annisul arrested

Staff Correspondent: Salman F Rahman, former adviser to the recently ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and former Law Minister Annisul Huq were arrested in the Sadarghat area of Dhaka during an alleged attempt to escape, police said.
The arrests were made in connection with a case filed at New Market Police Station, confirmed Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mainul Hasan to The Business Standard today (13 August).
According to the commissioner, police apprehended the two on a tip-off while they were attempting to flee the capital via waterways.
Salman F Rahman, co-founder and vice chairman of Beximco Group, one of the country’s largest business conglomerates, also serves as the chairman of IFIC Bank, a leading private commercial bank in Bangladesh. He previously served as the private industry and investment adviser to Sheikh Hasina and was a member of parliament for the Dhaka-1 constituency (Dohar and Nawabganj) representing the Awami League.
AnisulHuq served as the Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs from 2014 to 2024 and was a member of parliament for the Brahmanbaria-4 constituency (Kasba-Akhaura) under the Awami League banner. Before entering politics, he was a senior advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.
