People to get meat milk and eggs at cheaper rate from mobile van in city
Staff Correspondent: The government has started selling of meat, milk and eggs in the city as the consumers can buy these products at cheaper rate during the holy Ramadan.
“The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has initiated a month-long marketing programme to assist the traders, producers and supply chain concerned as the people can meet their nutritional demand during the holy month”, said Dr Reazul Hoque, Director (administration) of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS).
Under the programme, the government will sell liquid milk, beef, mutton, dressed broiler chicken and eggs equipped with mobile pickup cool van at 20 spots in the capital.
While talking to the , another DLS Director Dr ABM Khaleduzzaman said, “Primarily 100-kg beef, 10-kg mutton, 200-liters liquid milk, 50-kgs dressed broiler chicken and 2000 pieces of eggs are being sold at each spots.”
The government has a plan to raise the supply of the products and bring down the price of those products gradually as per the demand, said the Director (production).
The people will get per kilogram of dressed broiler chicken at Taka 340, beef at Taka 640, mutton at Taka 940, per liter liquid milk at Taka 80 and egg per piece Taka 10.
Earlier, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim inaugurated the programme at the Department Livestock Services on the first day of the Ramadan and it will continue till 28 of the Ramadan, said the official.
The 20 spots are Natun Bazar (Badda), Korail Basti (Banani), Khamarbari (Farmgate), Azimpur Matrisadhan, Gabtoli, Diabari (Uttara), Japan Garden City ( Mohammadpur), Shatfeet road ( Mirpur), Khilgaon, Abdul Gani Road (close to the secretariat), Segun Bagicha (kitchen market), Arambagh(Mothijheel), Rampura, Kalshi (Mirpur), Jatra Bari (on the way of Maniknagar Gali), Basila (Mohammadpur), Hazaribagh , Lucas more (Nakhalpara), Nayabazar (Old Dhaka) and Kamrangir char.
The mobile vans are scheduled to reach the spot by 9am in the morning with loading these particular items.
About the response from the people, Dr M Shahinur Alam, Director (extension) of the DLS said, “we are getting huge response from the people. “We are trying to increase the supply but the demand of beef is now very high, said Alam who is also supervising city’s Gabtoli spot. “We are trying to enhance the supply of the products according to their demand”, he added.
A high profile committee has already been formed headed by an Additional Secretary of the ministry to oversee and monitoring the programme.
Even the officials and representatives from the Department of Livestock Services (DLS), Livestock Dairy Development Project, Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council and Bangladesh Dairy Farmers Association will also oversee the programme.
