Pregnant, breastfeeding mothers can take vaccine jab

Staff Correspondent: The Covid-19 vaccine can be rolled out to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, said NAITAG (National Immunization Technical Advisory Group), the special vaccination committee.
The committee informed the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) yesterday.
NAITAG says pregnant mothers can get the COVID vaccine jab anytime during pregnancy. This will not harm the mother and child.
Earlier in the day, the High Court had asked the Attorney General to take action on the issue of vaccination to pregnant women within the next 72 hours.
A virtual High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim passed the order orally.
Four Supreme Court lawyers filed a writ petition in the High Court on Saturday (July 31) seeking directions to vaccinate pregnant women on a priority basis. Among them is a pregnant woman lawyer.
Following the hearing of the writ petition, the court today adjourned the petition orally. Barrister Mohammad Humayun Kabir Pallab appeared for the writ petition. Deputy Attorney General Samarendra Nath Biswas and Bipul Bagmar heard for the state.
Earlier, a legal notice was issued on Thursday. Humayun Kabir Pallab, a lawyer for the petitioners, told the media that “the writ petition was filed as there was no response to the notice”.
The writ petition named the Health Secretary, the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Cabinet Secretary, the Director General of the DGHS and the Director of the IEDCR as defendants.
