Price of broiler chicken reduced by Tk100 per KG
Staff Correspondent: The Director General of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) AHM Shafiquzzaman yesterday said that the price of broiler chicken has been reduced by Taka 100 per kilogram due to the countrywide drive and vigilance by the Directorate.
He also claimed that the market for essential commodities has remained stable this year.
Talking to BSS, Shafiquzzaman said that the price of broiler chicken went up abruptly and it was being sold at Taka 280 per kg. “In this regard, we conducted drives, sat with the business people and took various initiatives. As a result, poultry chicken is now being sold at Taka 180 per kg,”
Claiming that the market for essential items remains stable during the holy month of Ramadan, he said that the Directorate has been conducting drives in various parts of the country every day, while such kind of drive would continue throughout this month to keep the kitchen market stable.
Urging valued consumers not to resort to ‘panic buying’, the DNCRP director general said the consumers must become more responsible to keep the market stable. If any consumer falls victim of cheating, he suggested the consumers make a complaint to the directorate saying that a hearing will be held on each complaint.
Referring to the allegation of selling clothes at hiked prices through changing the tag or sticker, the director general said that they would sit with the business community on Thursday so that such an incident could not take place this time. He also cautioned that stern action would be taken if such an allegation is proved against any business entity or businessman.
It is mentionable that following an abnormal price hike for broiler chicken, the DNCRP had recently sat with four big companies, like Kazi Farms Ltd, CP Bangladesh, Aftab Multipurpose Farms Ltd and Paragon Poultry and Hatchery Ltd. During the meeting, the companies announced to reduce the price of poultry chicken. After that, the price of poultry chicken was reduced at retail level.
