Proposal to hike gas prices by 117pc for industries, 116pc for domestic use
Staff Correspondent: A public hearing on the proposed gas tariff hike at the retail level began o yesterday.
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) is holding the hearing at the BIAM Auditorium in the city on March 21-24 to listen to the arguments from the stakeholders in the gas sector. Distribution companies have submitted their final proposals to the energy regulator seeking a 117 per cent hike in gas price at the retail level for industries while 116 percent for domestic use.
Yesterday was the very first day of the four-day public hearing. Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Petroleum Corporation (Petrobangla) has raised their proposals from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm yesterday.
Petrobangla’s rationale for price increase was highlighted. The commission will then submit their assessment report. Those who have already enrolled at the end of the commission’s evaluation report took part in the discussion. Gas Transmission Company Limited (GTCL) was scheduled to raise their proposals from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
