RAJUK official sentenced 5yrs
Court Correspondent: A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced Assistant Authorisation Officer of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) Md Ali Azam Miah to five years in prison in a graft case by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-9 passed the orderyesterday.
Miah was sentenced to five years (without labour) imprisonment and a fine ofTk 1, 36, 54,510 for acquiring wealth outside the known income andconfiscation of the sum in favour of the State.
In addition, in another section, he was sentenced to one year imprisonment(without labour) and a fine of Taka 50,000, in default, he was sentenced toanother month of imprisonment.
The court mentioned in the order that the sentence of the two clauses willrun together, so the accused will have to serve five years in prison.
The accused in the case is absconding and the court announced the verdict inhis absence and issued an arrest warrant against him.
According to the case, ACC Deputy Director Rahila Khatun filed a case atRamna Police Station on April 13, 2017 against Miah on charges of acquiringassets outside of known income of Tk 1,47,85, 202 crore and concealinginformation of Tk 56,87,110 lakh.
On February 8, 2018, the ACC Deputy Director filed a charge sheet against theaccused.
