Rice prices won’t hike again: Sadhan
Staff Correspondent: Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder has made it clear that the price of rice will not go up.
He said this while speaking at the inaugural function of Boro Paddy Collection in eight districts of eight divisions of the country at Khaddo Bhaban yesterday.
Food Minister said boro paddy purchase activities started across the country from yesterday and buying rice will start from May 7. This year, the target has been set to purchase 11 lakh metric tonnes of rice and 6.5 lakh metric tonnes of paddy.
The minister advised the concerned people to ensure that the farmers are not harassed in any way while collecting paddy and rice. However, he warned that no compromise would be made on the quality of paddy and rice.
Advising the concerned parties to sign an agreement with the millers for the purchase of rice between May 7 and 18, he said the millers should also ensure that the terms of the agreement are not violated.
Earlier, Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder attended the inaugural function along with the concerns including DCs of eight districts of eight divisions.
