Spain wants to invest in Bhanga-Payra rail project
Staff Correspondent: Spain has expressed interest in financing the construction of a new railway line from Bhanga in Faridpur to Payra. At the same time, the Spanish Ambassador to Dhaka has also expressed interest in supplying locomotives to Bangladesh.
The Ambassador of Spain to Bangladesh Francisco Benitez paid a courtesy call on Nurul Islam Sujan and expressed his interest. Spain also expressed interest in conducting electric traction in Dhaka-Chittagong. The Spanish ambassador said the Spanish government was interested in providing low-interest loans for railway development.
During the meeting, a proposal has been made to test the feasibility of operating a high-speed train on the existing truck of Bangladesh Railway as per the proposal given to Bangladesh Railway by the Spanish company Talgo. The Ambassador sought the cooperation of Bangladesh Railway in this regard. The Spanish company Talgo mainly designs and manufactures high speed trains in diesel, electric and both modes. On December 1 last year, the Minister of Railways visited a factory in Spain. There they gave a presentation on their train operations on Bangladesh Railway. At the time, the railway minister said that a balanced communication system is very important for the sustainable development of a country. The present government is implementing various projects with more importance on railways. Our country is divided into two parts by broad gauge and meter gauge. We have taken steps to bring all countries under Broadgauge.
The Minister thanked Spain for its interest in investing in Bangladesh Railway. Therefore, he called for participation in various international tender processes.
