Tk 5000cr project pass for safe roads

Staff Correspondent: “Making roads safe is the biggest challenge. A project worth 5000 crores from ECNEC has been passed for safe roads.” Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader told reporters while exchanging Eid greetings at the Ministry’s meeting room at the Secretariat yesterday afternoon.
Obaidul Quader said, we actually have roads, flyovers, four lanes, six lanes, expressways, metrorail, Padma Bridge, Bangabandhu Tunnel – everything is happening, but we could not feel completely relaxed for one reason. That is lack of discipline Lack of discipline in transport and roads. Lack of discipline is our challenge.
The minister said, making safe roads is our challenge and now that we have got funds for that, I think the dream of safe roads will come true. If we try, we can make the roads of the country safe.
He said that projects worth 5000 crores have been passed in spite of the busyness of Eid. Out of this more than three thousand (crore) is from the World Bank and one thousand 200 crore is from our GOB. Ekneke passed means work will start.
He said, transportation should also be made safe. It is not just about funding here, we all have to show discipline and sense of responsibility.
