Value of taka against US$ decreases further
Staff Correspondent: The value of taka has decreased further against the US dollar in the country. The exchange rate was Tk 91.50 against per dollar after decreasing by Tk 1.60 on Monday. The exchange rate of each dollar on Tuesday was Tk 91.95 after declining by Tk 0.45.
The information was learnt from the website of Bangladesh Bank yesterday.
Sources at the central bank confirmed that Bangladesh Bank took Tk 91.95 against one dollar from the banks yesterday.
The value of taka decreased four times in five days after giving responsibility to banks regarding the determination of dollar prices. The value of taka against a dollar declined four times in the last month in the country.
Earlier on Thursday, the central bank fixed US dollar price at Tk 89.90, which was Tk 89.
Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Sirajul Islam said the dollar price has been fixed after evaluation of actual prices in order to make expatriates happy.
Some Tk 91.95 is being spent to purchase one US dollar from inter-bank currency market. Calculating as Tk 91.95 a dollar price, 130 million US dollar has been sold to banks. Overall, the central bank has sold 607 crore US dollar in the current fiscal year.
