Veteran social worker Aziz Mollick is no more
Special Correspondent: Alhaj Azizul Haque Mollick (Aziz Mollick), a prominent politician and social worker of Shariatpur, breathed his last at Asgar Ali Hospital in Dhaka at around 1:30 PM on Tuesday (Inna Lillahi WaInna Ilaihi Rajeun). Earlier, he was admitted to the hospital 5-6 days ago with old age ailments. He was 96 years old. He is survived by his wife, four sons, one daughter and numerous relatives, friends, colleagues and admirers. His second elder son Moinul Haque Manju is a former Commissioner of Dhaka South City Corporation. Other children live in the United States. Sister Hosne Ara Begum is a former Principal of Mohammadpur Government Women’s College.
His political career began in Dhaka’s Golapbagh in the company of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He was a close associate of national leader late Abdur Razzaq. He was the adviser of the district Awami League. He was instrumental in the elevation of Shariatpur from Sub-Division to District. He contributed a lot to the development of the district when he served as the general secretary of the Shariatpur District Development Association in Dhaka. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina awarded him gold medal to this meritorious child of Shariatpur as the best son of the district.
Aziz Mollick’s first Namaz-e-Janaza will be held at Tikatuli Jame Masjid in Dhaka at 10:00am on Wednesday. Later, he will be buried in the family graveyard after his second Janaza after Zohar prayer at Burirhat Jame Masjid in Shariatpur and the third Janaza after Asr at Eidgah Maidan at his village home Manua. Former Water Resources Deputy Minister Enamul Haque Shamim, MP, Member of Parliament for Shariatpur-3 Constituency Nahim Razzak, Shariatpur Journalist Association, Dhaka President Benazir Ahmed and General Secretary Asaduzzaman Azam expressed deep grief over his death.
