Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh army with the help of students have unearthed an Ansar munity conducted surrounding Bangladesh secretariat, the administrative nerve of the republic.
Six army personnel were injured in an attack by Ansar members in the capital’s Secretariat area. The condition of one of them is critical, Bangladesh Army said. A case has been filed with Paltan Police Station against 4112 Ansar personnel.
This information was known from a circular issued by the Bangladesh Army on Monday (August 26). According to the statement, on Sunday (August 25), army personnel deployed to maintain law and order strengthened the security system at various important places and all the gates of the Secretariat to ensure the overall security of the Bangladesh Secretariat area. On this day, approximately 10,000 Ansar members gathered and surrounded the Bangladesh Secretariat and held 7 advisers of the interim government and other senior officials of the Secretariat hostage. Director General, Ansar and VDP arrived at the Secretariat in the afternoon to pacify the agitated Ansar members and accepted all the demands of the Ansar members.
However, the agitated Ansar members did not leave the Secretariat area and blocked the Director General of Ansar and VDP and some Ansar members tried to enter by breaking Gate No. 3 of the Secretariat.
At that time, the excited Ansar members ambushed the students present at the spot and attacked the army patrol guarding the secretariat with sticks along with pelting bricks. During this time 6 soldiers were injured and one of them is in critical condition.
In such a situation, the army personnel deployed to bring the situation under control patiently engaged with the Ansar members, but the agitated Ansars fired 27 rounds of blank bullets in the air. Later, Bangladesh deployed additional troops in the Secretariat area and dispersed the Ansars and brought the situation under control. After that, 7 advisors of the Interim Government, DG Ansar, senior law enforcement officers and all the officials of the Secretariat, who were blocked in the Secretariat, left the Secretariat area safely with the help of the army.
The deployed troops took control of a number of Ansar members who infiltrated the secretariat and later sought refuge for their lives and handed them over to the police.
Case filed against 4,114 Ansar members
A case has been filed against 4,114 Ansar members at the capital’s Paltan Model Police Station for obstructing police work. Among them, 114 names have been mentioned. Paltan police station sub-inspector Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan filed the case as plaintiff on Monday.
It is known that 95 Ansar members have been arrested in this case. They have produced in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka.
The members of Ansar started the protest and sit-in program after 12 noon on Sunday after 12 noon on the demand of job nationalization. Because of their location, no one could enter or leave the secretariat.
A group of members of Ansar in the secretariat have detained many people including the coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement and advisor to the interim government Nahid Islam, coordinator Sarjis Alam, Hasnat Abdullah.
Later, around 9 pm, the students gathered at TSC’s Raju Bhaskar from different halls of Dhaka University. After some time, they marched to the secretariat area. Then the students chased with Ansar members. About 50 people were injured, including Hasnat Abdullah, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement.
