Bangladesh win thriller over India
First ODI
Sports Desk: Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman’s 51 runs unbroken stand for the last wicket helped Bangladesh to beat India by 1 wicket in the first ODI of the three-match series at Mirpur tonight. Miraz scored 38 off 39 balls not out while Mustafizur Rahman scored 10 off 11 not out.
In reply to India’s 186/10, Bangladesh chased it down in 46 overs losing 9 wickets in the first ODI of the three-match series at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka yesterday.
Chasing the target, Bangladesh lost opener Najmul Hossain Shanto in the very first ball off Chahar. Then Skipper Liton Das and Anamul Haque Bijoy put 26 runs stand for the second wicket stand before the latter got out for 14 off 29.
Liton Das and Shakib put 48 runs for the third wicket stand which kept Bangladesh in the match. Liton got out scoring team highest 41 off 63, Bangladesh were 74/3 in 19.2 overs.
Shakib (29 off 38) and Musfiqur tried to rebuild for the home side but the former got dismissed thanks to Virat Kohli’s stunning catch off Washinton Sundar.
Musfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad put 33 runs for the fifth wicket stand but the dou got dismissed in quick succession leaving Bangladesh 6-128. Bangladesh’s woe increased further when Afif Hossain got out for 6 and Ebadot Hossain for naught off Sen’s same over.
Bangladesh lost their ninth wicket to 136 when Hasan Mahmud got lbw off Mohammed Siraj. Bangladesh still, needed 51 runs in the last wicket which is almost impossible. But Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman did that posssible for Bangladesh and left the field with thrilling 1 wicket victory.
Earlier, Shakib Al Hasan registered a five-wicket haul to help Bangladesh bundle out India for 186 runs despite a fine 73-run knock from KL Rahul in the ongoing first ODI of the three-match series at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka yesterday. While Shakib returned figures of 5 for 36, Ebadot Hossain also starred with a 4 for 47.
Bangladesh skipper Litton Das had won the toss and opted to bowl first. Kuldeep Sen has made his India debut. Mehidy Hasan Miraz had dismissed Dhawan (7 off 17) to provide Bangladesh the first breakthrough on 23 in 5.2 overs.
Shreyas Iyer (24 off 39) was dismissed by Ebadat Hossain after Shakib Al Hasan struck twice in three balls to dismiss both Rohit Sharma (27 off 31) and Virat Kohli (9 off 15) in the same over.
Ebadot Hossain removed Shahbaz Ahmed for naught in the 2nd ball off the 34th over thanks to a stunning catch by Shakib Al Hasan. Before that, Shakib took the wicket off Washington Sundar (19 off 43) to break 60 run stand for the fifth wickets.
Shardul Thakur (2) and Deepak Chahar (0) depart in the 35th over of the innings off Shakib. Shakib completed his five-wicket haul with the wicket off Chahar.
KL Rahul was the top scorer for India who scored 73 off 70, his innings adorned with five fours and four sixes, before getting out by Ebadot.
When Mohammed Siraj 2 dismissed by Ebadot, India all out for 186/10 in 41.2 overs.
The second match of the series will be held in the same venue on December 7 at 12 pm Bangladesh Time.
