Bumper yield of soybean in Laxmipur

Laxmipur Correspondent: Soybean bumper crop has been harvested in Laxmipur. If the weather is favorable, farmers will be able to take soybeans home in the next two to one days. The Department of Agriculture says that the production of Soybean in the district has improved this year due to all kinds of cooperation as well as consultation. Soybeans are expected to fetch more than Tk 300 crore this year.
According to the Agriculture Office, 75 to 80 percent of the country’s soybean production is in Laxmipur. The district has gained a reputation as the capital of soybean as it has been planted more than expected.
Farmers said that soybean cultivation is likely to be more profitable at a lower cost as there is no additional hassle in the land. However, even with good yields, they are worried about the price this year. They demanded to set up soybean processing factories in the district as well as to conserve soybeans officially.
Hafeez Ahmed, Aman Ullah and Sekantar Mia, farmers of Charramoni Mohan area of Laxmipur Sadar Upazila, along with some others, said that they do not have any problem in soybean cultivation. Only by cultivating the land and sowing the seeds and with a little care can the desired crop be harvested at home.
Farmers also said that they do not get fair price of soybean produced from moneylenders. Farmers can get the right price if they buy soybean officially.
Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension agriculturist Zakir Hossain said that on the advice of the agriculture department, the farmers have sown improved seeds and used balanced fertilizers. As a result, soybean yield has improved this time. Soybean has been planted in 36,000 hectares of land in Laxmipur district this year. The production target has been set at 6,540 metric tons. Whose market value will be more than Tk 300 crore.
