Garment worker skilled in police firing at Gazipur
Gazipur Correspondent: A garment worker named Russell Howladar (26) was killed in police firing at Malek Bari area of Basan police station in Gazipur district. He worked as an electrician in Energypack Design Garments.
He was brought to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 3:30 pm on Monday (October 30) and was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.
The deceased Russell’s house is in Binayakandi village of Sadar police station of Jhalkathi district. He is the son of Hannan Howladar of that area.
Abu Sufian, a colleague of the deceased, said that I and Russell Howladar live in the same house and work in the same garment. I came to know that the police opened fire on the workers while they were agitating for their salary. Russell was shot in the chest. Later he was rescued with bullet wounds and taken to Ahsanullah Master Medical College and Hospital in Tongi. From there he was sent to Dhaka Medical for advanced treatment.
Constable Tilak of Tongi East Police Station, who accompanied the deceased Russell Howladar, said, “We do not know how the bullet was fired.” We brought him here from Ahsanullah Medical.
Bachchu Mia, inspector in charge of police camp of DMK Hospital, said that the body of Russell Howladar, who was shot, has been kept in the morgue of the hospital’s emergency department.
