Record 50 dev projects to be approved today

Last Ecnec meeting of current govt

Staff Correspondent: The last meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) of the current term of the government is going to be held today. A record number of projects are being taken up for approval in this meeting. A total of 50 projects including 44 new and 6 revised ones will be taken up for approval in the meeting. Also 32 projects approved by Planning Minister at various times will be notified. Earlier, a maximum of 38 projects were approved in one meeting before the last national elections.

According to the sources of the Planning Commission, the Minister of State for Planning Shamsul Alam is approving the construction project of suspension bridge over Meghna-Dhonagoda river worth Tk 4,174 crore. Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain is approving the Mirganj Bridge over the Arial Khan River.
The president is approving the much talked about Ichamati river revitalization project in Pabna district. Two projects are getting approval in the name of sustainable management of the much-discussedJamuna river. Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway improvement project is also getting approval. Besides, six projects are being taken up for extension in the coming years, which have already been revised thrice and are being taken up for informing 32 projectsin the meetings. Which have already been approved these 32 projects said Planning Minister MA Mannan.
Regarding the presentation of a record number of projects in Ecnec meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan told the Daily Industry that there was no Ecnec meeting in the last one month. Since Eenec meeting has not happened for a long time, I will present many projects at Ecnecmeeting. Earlier also we approved 20 to 25 projects in each Ecnec meeting. Four Ecnec meetings are held in a month.
ADP of Tk 263,000 crore has been taken for the current financial year. In all there are 1,309 ongoing projects. 825 projects have been kept as unallocated new projects. Project approval is now being given from that list.
Among the new major projects that are going to be approved by Ecnec are three projects for the development of rural infrastructure in Naogaon-Magura and Jaipurhat districts, the establishment of Mujibnagar Liberation War Memorial Center, the land acquisition and development project for Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University Kishoreganj, the Learning Education in Secondary Education project, Offside Water Supply Facility Project at Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, Gas Power and Communication Infrastructure Construction of Maheshkhali Economic Zone 3, Jessore Export Processing Area Project, BSTI Regional Office Establishment in Ten Districts, 5 Projects of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Apart from this, 18 projects of physical infrastructure department are getting approval in the coming year. The major physical infrastructure projects are land acquisition and relocation of utilities for upgradation of Bhanga-Jesore-Benapole highway to four lanes, Resilient Urban and Territorial Development Project, road development project from Beribandh Rayer Bazar to Lohar Bridge on Inner Circular Ring Road, dualization of Chittagong-Dohazari meter gauge railway. Gauge Railway Conversion Project, Yamuna River Suspended Management Project etc.
