Hasina, Rehana, Joy, and Putul sued over fruit vendor’s killing

Staff Correspondent: A case has been filed against 21 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, son SajeebWazed Joy, and daughter SaimaWazedPutul, in connection with the shooting death of a fruit vendor during a recent student movement at Jatrabari, Dhaka.
Md Sultan Sheikh, the father of the deceased, MdFarid Sheikh, lodged the case in the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court of MdShakil Ahmed on Tuesday. Following the filing, the court ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to probe the incident.
Among the accused are prominent Awami League leaders, including ObaidulQuader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Hasan Mahmud, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, Mohammad Ali Arafat, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, and ex-Detective Branch head Harun-or-Rashid. The case also includes 250 unnamed individuals.
According to the complaint, on August 4, amid an intense student-led movement demanding Sheikh Hasina’s resignation, Farid Sheikh was shot by police near the toll plaza of the Mayor Hanif Flyover in Jatrabari at around 3:30 pm while heading to his fruit shop. Bystanders bravely transported him to Mugda Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on August 6.
