Insurers’ assets stood at Tk 60,000crore

Staff Correspondent: Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal yesterdaysaid that the assets of the country’s insurance companies are worth Tk 60,000 crores. From 2009 to 2021, the growth of life insurance companies in the country “quadrupled”. The growth of general insurance companies has “tripled”.
He said this while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of National Insurance Day 2022 at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the capital yesterday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was virtually present as the chief guest at the event.
Presiding over the occasion, the Finance Minister said the country is moving forward under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the architect of modern Bangladesh. The assets of the insurance company are now Tk 60 thousand crores.
He said there is a lot of potential for wealth growth. In this case, there is an opportunity to introduce various types of insurance including house-car, rail, bus-terminal, road-ghat and passenger. We have to pay attention to these. All people and resources must be covered by insurance.
Earlier, five people including Sheikh Kabir Hossain, chairman of Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA) and Sonar Bangla Insurance were honored this year for their contribution to the insurance sector. Among them, Sheikh Kabir Hossain has been honored for his outstanding contribution to the insurance sector.
Besides, Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, advisor of Green Delta Insurance, Haji Maqbool Hossain, former chairman of Sandhani Life Insurance and Mustafizur Rahman, founder of National Life were honored for their contribution through re-insurance. Besides, former secretary of the insurance sector Mohammad Nazrul Islam has been honored.

Secretary of the Financial Institutions Department of the Ministry of Finance Sheikh Mohammad Salim Ullah, Chairman of IDR Dr. M Mosharraf Hossain and others were present on the occasion organized by Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA).
