National election on January 7
Staff Correspondent: The Election Commission (EC) has announced the date of the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections. As per the announced date, the polling for the national elections will be held on January 7.
The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal announced the schedule of the national elections in an address to the nation from the Election Commission building in Agargaon at 7 pm on Wednesday (November 15).
According to the announced schedule, the general election of the 12th National Parliament will be held on 7th January 2024 in 300 seats on Sunday. Recruitment of 66 Returning Officers and 592 Assistant Returning Officers has been finalised.
Regarding the schedule, the CEC said in the speech, the last date for submission of nomination papers is November 30, nomination papers will be selected from December 1 to 4, appeals against the order of the returning officer will be filed and disposed of in the commission from December 6 to 15. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is 17th December. The returning officers will allot the symbols on December 18.
The CEC also said that the election campaign will continue from December 18 to January 5, 2024 at 8 am.
Earlier, the CEC-led commission held a meeting on the schedule of the 12th parliamentary elections at 5 pm. The meeting ended at 6:30 pm. After that, the CEC announced the election schedule in an address to the nation.
