No Bangladeshi varsity in list of top 100 in Asia

Industry Desk: There is no university in Bangladesh in the list of top 100 universities in Asian University Ranking 2024 by Quack Quarelli Symonds (QS), a UK-based education and research organization. The position of Dhaka University is 140th in this list.
Apart from Dhaka University, Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET) and private North South University are among the top 200 institutions in the list. The positions of the two universities are 187th and 191st respectively.
Education and research firm Quack Quarelli Symonds released a list of the top 856 universities in Asia on Wednesday (Nov 8). The organization publishes this list at the beginning of November every year.
Meanwhile, China’s Peking University (Beijing) has become the best in the list of the best 856 universities in Asia. National University of Singapore is in the second position.
The ranking is mainly based on 11 indicators. This includes academic activities, PhD staff and the number of international students.
QS University Ranking is one of the university rankings. QS annually publishes an annual ranking of the world’s universities based on a number of criteria.
The list is based on universities’ research, innovation, graduates’ performance in employment, institutional success, faculty and student success, international research networks, research article citations, number of faculty and staff with PhD degrees, international faculty-student ratio, and international student exchange rates.
Prior to this, two other institutes published the university rankings last September. There was no university in Bangladesh among the top 1000 institutions in the ranking by Spain’s Madrid-based education and research institute Webmetrics. In this ranking of 31 thousand universities, the position of Dhaka University was joint 1051st. And the position of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology was 1421.
The UK-based education magazine ‘Times Higher Education’ (THE) published the ranking of various universities in the world, in the list of the top 800 universities, there were 24 universities in India and 8 universities in Pakistan, but there was no university in Bangladesh.
In that list, 9 universities of Bangladesh were placed after 800. Whereas in the ranking, there were 4 universities of Bangladesh between 801 and 1000 in the world. These are BRAC University, Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University and North South University.
Besides, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET) and Rajshahi University are ranked between 1001-1200 in that ranking. Khulna University and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology have been placed in the list of 1201-1500 universities.
Earlier in 2022 Times Higher Education ranking of Dhaka University and North South University was between 601 and 800.
