Rape and murder case filed against Bashundhara MD 7 others over Muniya death

Staff Correspondent: A fresh casewas filed against eight persons including Bashundhara Group Managing Director (MD) SayemSobhanAnvir for allegedly raping and killing Mosarrat Jahan Muniya, also a college student in the capital’s Gulshan.
Other accused of the cases are: Ahmed Akbar Sobhan Shah Alam, Chairman of Bashundhara Group and also father of the main accused Anvir, his mother Afroza Begum and wife Sabrina, Sharmin, Saifa Rahman Mim, so-called model Faria Mahbub Piyasa and flat owner Ibrahim Ahmed Ripon.
Victim’s elder sister Nusrat Jahan Taniya filed the cases with the court of Judge Mafruza Parveen of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-8 in Dhaka yesterday.In the case, the charge of murder was brought under section 302/34, while the charge of rape was brought under section 9/1 and 9/2.
After hearing the statement, the court gave the investigation charge of the case to PIB (Police Bureau of Investigation).
Plaintiff’s lawyer MasudSalauddin yesterday confirmed the matter to the journalists and said, “SayemSobhanAnvir developed physical relationship with Muniya alluring her to marry. She was later brutally murdered without getting married. In this case, other accused including his family members helped him to slaughter her.
It is to be mentioned that on the night of April 19, the police recovered the body of 21-year-old Muniya from a flat in Gulshan of the capital city Dhaka.
On the same night, his sister Nusrat Jahan Taniya filed a case against Anvir at Gulshan police station on charge ofprovoking her to suicide.
On July 19, Gulshan police released Anvir in the case and submitted the final report of the investigation to the court. Later, the plaintiff and Muniya’s sister Nusrat Jahan Taniya filed a non-acceptance petition (no-confidence in the report) against the report.
But, the court accepted the police’s final report and acquitted Anvirfrom the case on August 18.
Taniya complained to the court that before submitting the final report, the investigation officer (IO) of the case informed her that he would submit the investigation report to the court citing information related to the suspected murder and rape of the victim. But, she was not informed about the report that was later submitted to the court giving release to the accused. In the new case, she also requested to hand over the responsibility of investigation of the case to else other organization.
