Restaurants-shopping malls are at fire risk

Farhad Chowdhury : Fire Service and Civil Defense visited more than 500 buildings and institutions after the death of 46 people in a terrible fire in a restaurant in Baily Road recently.Among them, 84 restaurants and shopping malls in the capital are under high risk of fire, according to the fire service. It is known that 84 buildings and institutions have been identified as high risk in fire safety, 408 buildings and institutions have been identified as risky. Warning messages have been posted in 2 buildings identified as high risk and 8 buildings identified as dangerous.Out of these maximum 27 are in Khilgaon area.
Major accidents can happen in these buildings at any time. Apart from 27 in Khilgaon, 22 in Motijheel, Malibagh, Mouchak, Shantinagar, Bailiroad, Wari, Sadarghat, Lalbagh areas, 15 buildings and institutions in Dhanmondi Mohammadpur, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, Tejgaon and Mirpur areas have been identified as high risk.

On the other hand, 20 buildings and institutions have been identified as high risk in Gulshan, Banani and Uttara. From March 5 to March 12, 516 shopping malls, restaurants, buildings and institutions have been inspected for fire safety and a list has been prepared by dividing them into three categories as high risk, risk and low risk. Among them, 63 buildings in Motijheel, Malibagh, Mouchak, Shantinagar and Bailiroad areas of Zone-1 were inspected and 10 were identified as high risk, 3 risky and less risky.
Besides, 77 institutions and buildings were inspected in Wari, Lalbagh and Sadarghat areas and 12 were identified as high risk, 62 as risky and 3 as low risk. Under Zone-2, a total of 99 buildings were inspected in Dhanmondi, Mohammadpur, Farmgate, Karwan bazar and Tejgaon areas, and 2 buildings were identified as high risk, 96 as risky and one as low risk.
Besides, only 74 institutions and buildings were inspected in Mirpur zone and 13 were identified as high risk, 55 as risky and 6 as low risk. Under Zone-3, 53 buildings and institutions were inspected in Gulshan and Banani areas and 9 were identified as high risk, 41 as risky and 3 as low risk.Besides, after inspecting 76 buildings and institutions in Wari area, 11 were identified as high risk, 55 as risky and 10 as low risk.
